StarChaserI have yet to make a pot of rice without it being at least scorched on the bottom, following the directions perfectly. You can't turn off the 'warm' function at all, so you have to wait for it to click then jump to unplug it if you don't want your rice warmed to carbon.
The simple idea of a rice cooker is to heat the rice until it's cooked, then stop, without having to watch it like a hawk. This is only barely better than a pot on a stove. I WANTED to like it, Black and Decker hasn't let me down before, but they didn't manage it.
That said, the steamer function works pretty well, letting one cook one big potato's worth of potato chunks to perfection pretty well, and you can also steam something like sausage slices while cooking the rice at the same time. (this actually makes the rice a little better. Use a little less butter, and the sausage's fat renders into the water. Still burns on the bottom, but tastes good)

I am a big fan of this rice cooker. It's compact, makes perfect rice every time, and keeps it warm as long as you need without drying it out. I've used it for white, brown, basmati, and wild rice as well as smaller grains like quinoa. It is very easy to use and clean.

Ok, i've owned several different size rice cookers and have bought each of my kids rice cookers when they went to college. I bought this 3 cup uncooked/6 cup cooker rice cooker for my youngest son and couldn't believe how TINY is was when we received it! We immediately tested it with a brown rice/wild rice mix and what a mess. Everyone who owns a rice cooker knows there will occasionally be some boil-over and splatter. However, this one made such a huge mess for such a small cooker that i had to cover it with a towel and place a towel underneath it while it was cooking or liquid and splatter would have spilled all over the counter. i don't know if this is just what happens with a very small cooker or if it's just a poor design. Otherwise, the cooker is well-made for the price.
The rice turned out perfect though and 6 cups cooked is more than enough for a single guy.

to: R. Anconetani . I made the same mistake and ordered the tiny 3-cup model instead of the 6-cup model. In the pictures they look exactly alike annd the 3-cups dry vs 3-cups cooked distinction in the desciptions is not always made clear.
I sent the single-serving model back and got the larger one.

I never had a rice cooker before, and I was always trying to cook rice in a small pot, even following the directions from videos I've found on youtube. Never could get it to come out right though. I always loved the rice served at the local Japanese restaurant, but could never come close to that when trying it on my own. After I got this rice cooker, the rice came out EXACTLY like the restauarant's does, very first try. I also like the small size of this cooker, because I don't have much counter space. Works great, has everything you need included.
