A rubber gasket's primary purpose is to create a constant tight seal. Over time a gasket can dry out and lose its elasticity. If you notice this happening, replace the gasket immediately. A worn out gasket can lead to steam not building up, or worse, escaping from your cooker.
The rubber gasket is the key part in forming the tight seal when you lock your pressure cooker for steaming. Every now and then, your gasket needs replacing to keep your pressure cooker working at its highest capacity. With about a 9 inch diameter, this gasket fits all 6-quart and smaller Fagor pressure cookers. --Cristina Vaamonde

The old gasket of our pressure cooker had deteriorated and this was a replacement. It came quickly and was exactly as described. Works great.
"Finally my pressure cooker works again!" 2010-02-01By
Daniel MooreMy old gasket prevented a good seal. With the new gasket I was able to cook beans again in less than 10 minutes! I just got it, so we'll see how long this one lasts. The old one lasted several years.
"Great product" 2009-08-08By
E. HaydockWorks great. We have had pressure cookers for over 20 years and use one every day (for veggies) this replacemtnt gasket last 2-3 times loger than our previous gaskets on other pressure cookers.
"gasket failed" 2009-06-04By

The silicon gasket which came with the new unit failed after less than a year, got a tear in it somehow, really didn't have that much use, so I was disappointed. The Presto gaskets last longer and I never had one tear like this.

An excellent OEM replacement silicone gasket at a good price.
The original gasket hardened and leaked, making it impossible to build pressure without repeated "jiggling" of the lid in order to make the initial seal.
The replaced part was dated "96 7", so it was probably not made of silicone. Can I expect even longer service from this one?
