Mirro 22-quart pressure cooker quickly and healthfully cooks foods with trapped steam at temperatures higher than boiling. It's the ideal size for families. Pressure cooking requires little water so nutrients, flavor, and color are not boiled away. Made of rust-proof, heavy-gauge aluminum, the cooker has a stay-cool, locking handle. Mirro pressure cookers are designed with safety in mind. This one features the "Triple Safe Design" with a safety release plug, sure-locking lid system, and side gasket pressure release.

 "Best quality brand" 2010-07-01
By Herbal Jo
I have been canning for years but never utilized a pressure canner.
I remember my Mom using one and of course back in the older days hers did blow up in the kitchen.
This year it is my quest to purchase a pressure canner.
I happen to see one at Meijer's. Mirro 20 qt. which prompted my search.
In review of various brands: construction, price, features I find I really am confused. I have read many of the good and bad reviews.
My question is really this.
In rating the various brands what would be suggested.
Mirro - Presto - All American
I read how the bottoms of the Mirro may bulge but that might be due to cold water rinse.
All American may be the best yet is double the price.

I do have an elecric stove with coils.

Can anyone help me with my decision. I want to make a wise choice if possible.
also has anyone had problems with order on-line or should I seek out a store. One comment was the woman was glad she did not purchase the brand offered at Target. she received a better model on-line.

I appreciate any guidance any one can give me.

Appreciatively,
Herbal JO

 "Mirro pressure canner" 2010-06-21

I love my Mirro 22-qt pressure canner. With the large capacity, I can process far larger amounts at a time than I had previously been processing.

 "Buyer Beware!!" 2010-04-06
By rhodeymark (Newport, RI United States)
If you are of limited reading comprehension, then this may not be for you. The All-American with the screw down lid may be the only one you can be trusted with. Pay the cost, whatever it is - the canning community wants you safe. Now that we have dispensed with the unneccesarily snarky disclaimer (relax, it was tongue in cheek), let's cover a major source of hand wringing. THE DIRECTIONS clearly state that before canning, you should do a trial run with ONLY 2 qts water and 1 tbsp vinegar. Bring to pressure with stove on high and 10 lb weight mounted. It will leak around the handle until safety lock seals under pressure (it's in the book). After the button pops it will take a bit longer to achieve the full 10 lbs. When it does, the "jiggler" will release pressure. NO - IT MIGHT NOT JIGGLE. My goodness people, think about what is happening and don't be so literal that you assume the worst. Mine actually spun around releasing steam jets like a 4th of July sparkler wheel. I thought that was pretty neat, actually. You then reduce the heat until it releases steam briefly then stops and rebuilds pressure. This stop and start should be approx 4x per minute, or every 15 seconds or so. My GE GLASS TOP STOVE did this perfectly at a setting of 5. Now I have my canner/stove "calibrated" according to the instruction book. Now, I can't make snide comments about reading without acknowledging that the box clearly states "Not for glass or ceramic stoves". The bottom has a convex well where the manufacturers info is embossed (so does Presto) and the sides do slope a bit more than the Presto models. However, I am not alone in using the Mirro product on a GE glass top stove, and the GE company is reportedly confident that the product will not damage their thick glass models. YMMV - your mileage may vary! As I wrote on another review in the comments, I am willing to can with the Mirro on this stove as the reports of catastrophic dial failure on the big Presto would be worse than replacing a cracked stove top. My wife would never can again...

 "Great canner" 2010-02-01

We love this for canning. It took a little time to adjust from our old canner which has a single 15 lb weight and limited capacity to this one. No more one batch at a time late nights for us.

 "Weights included :-)" 2009-12-08
By Andrew Wysocki (San Francisco, CA)
I was happy with this purchase because it comes with the 5 lb, 10 lb and 15 lb pressure weights. My canned goods never tasted so well.
